In the last 20 years, the mainstream fitness industry tragically has moved away from the foundational methods of strength training that have produced unmatched results (not to mention numerous Olympic medals and World-champion athletes).  They have perverted proven methods for maximizing power & strength by trying to intermix muscular endurance – a recipe for disaster and injury.  

The  trend to base workouts almost exclusively on more non-intensive exercises that were originally designed for rehabilitation (all in the name of ‘Functional Training’) has also left many people deprived of established workout programs that provide them with the performance and health results that they were seeking in the first place.

CHRIS BORGARD is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (National Strength and Conditioning Association) and exercise physiologist who has spent time as an intern coach in both professional football and baseball.  In the last ten years, Chris has assumed coaching roles for the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, and Oakland Athletics, having recently been named 2012 Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year for Minor’s League Baseball’s (MiLB) California League.  Chris earned his B.S. degree in Exercise Science while playing running back at Arkansas State University, and then did his master’s degree in Kinesiology at Cal Poly, where he taught exercise physiology and group activity classes.  While at Cal Poly, he has worked as a college strength and conditioning coach for over 5 years.  During this time, Chris worked with 4 track & field Olympians and Trials qualifiers, while directly training 5 NCAA All-Americans and 25 NCAA West Regional Qualifiers in track & field and cross country.  He has also designed and implemented rehab programs for ATP and WTA Tour tennis professionals ranked as high as Top 20 in the world.  Chris is currently training members of the elite Asics Aggies track & field club based in San Luis Obispo, and is also continuing to conduct research projects on sports nutrition and metabolism.
